Shiromani Akali Dal leader Sukhbir Badal has publicly challenged the candidacy of Sanjeev Arora as the Punjab elections approach.
Punjab's political landscape saw a fresh controversy when senior Shiromani Akali Dal figure Sukhbir Badal raised doubts about the candidature of Sanjeev Arora. Badal, speaking at a press briefing, asked party officials to clarify the basis of Arora's nomination, suggesting that procedural norms may have been overlooked.
The query comes amid intense campaigning for the upcoming state assembly elections, where candidate selections are under close scrutiny by rival parties and voters alike. Badal emphasized the need for transparency, urging the party to ensure that every nominee meets the required legal and ethical standards.
While no formal complaint has been lodged, the remarks have sparked discussion within political circles and among the electorate. Observers note that such internal challenges could influence voter perception as the election timetable tightens.
The party has yet to issue an official response to Badal's concerns, leaving the matter unresolved ahead of the final candidate list submission.
Election officials are expected to review all nominations for compliance before the filing deadline, a process that will determine whether Arora's candidacy proceeds without further objections.
