The sugarcane growers have temporarily halted their agitation and have set a fresh deadline to pursue their demands.

Sugarcane cultivators across several states have announced a suspension of their ongoing agitation, signalling a temporary pause in the protests that have been affecting the agricultural sector. The decision comes after weeks of rallies and blockades aimed at drawing attention to long‑standing grievances over pricing and procurement policies.

In lieu of the halt, the farmers' unions have communicated a new deadline by which they expect the government to address key issues, including fair remunerations and timely payments. The deadline is intended to provide a clear timeframe for negotiations and to avoid further disruption to the sugarcane supply chain.

State officials have welcomed the pause, urging both parties to use the interval for constructive dialogue. They have pledged to review the demands and to convene a meeting with farmer representatives before the stipulated date.

Stakeholders warn that any further delay could reignite the agitation, potentially impacting sugar production and related industries nationwide.
