A recent health study has identified a connection between preventable infections and thousands of cancer cases across Telangana, prompting calls for stronger preventive measures.

A report published by Telangana Today cites a health study that found a significant association between infections that can be prevented through vaccination and hygiene, and a large number of cancer cases in the state. The analysis estimates that the link accounts for thousands of diagnosed cancers, highlighting a public‑health concern that had received limited attention previously.
Health experts say that infections such as human papillomavirus, hepatitis B and C, and certain bacterial agents are known to increase cancer risk when left untreated. The study underscores that many of these infections are avoidable through existing vaccines, screening programmes and improved sanitation.
The findings have prompted state health officials to urge the public to complete recommended immunisation schedules and to seek early testing for chronic infections. Authorities are also reviewing cancer‑prevention strategies to incorporate infection‑control measures, aiming to reduce the future burden of cancer in Telangana.
