Student Elections Likely to Return in Maharashtra Universities with New Rules Expected by January

According to a report by NDTV Profit, the state’s higher education department is exploring the possibility of reinstating student union elections in universities across Maharashtra. The move comes after a period during which such elections were not held in many institutions. Officials indicate that a fresh set of rules governing the elections is under discussion and is likely to be notified by January 2025. If approved, the revised framework would outline eligibility, campaign guidelines and the timetable for holding polls, aiming to restore a democratic student voice on campuses.
