Madhya Pradesh student Arpit Jaj, who returned to Delhi after celebrating Rakhi, was trapped under the rubble when the five‑storey Satyaniketan hostel building collapsed, and his body was recovered on Monday.
The five‑storey Satyaniketan hostel building in Delhi collapsed on Sunday, sending a massive slab of concrete and bricks onto the ground floor where students were staying. Rescue teams from the Delhi Fire Service and the National Disaster Response Force arrived within hours to search for survivors amid the debris.
Arpit Jaj, a 20‑year‑old student from Devas in Madhya Pradesh, had traveled back to Delhi on Saturday after celebrating Raksha Bandhan with his family. He was staying in the hostel when the structure gave way and was buried under the rubble.
Emergency workers worked through the night and into Monday, using cutting tools and cranes to clear the wreckage. On Monday, they located and recovered Arpit's body, confirming his death. Officials have launched an investigation into possible structural violations and have ordered a safety audit of similar hostel facilities in the city.
