A convoy of a YSR Congress Party MP was pelted with stones while heading to file his nomination, officials said.
A convoy carrying a Member of Parliament from the YSR Congress Party was attacked with stones as it travelled to submit a nomination paper for the upcoming elections. The incident occurred on a public road, and eyewitnesses reported that a group of unidentified individuals hurled the stones at the vehicles, causing damage but no reported injuries.
Police arrived at the scene shortly after the attack and began a preliminary investigation. They have detained a few suspects for questioning, while the security detail of the MP was reinforced.
Election officials have condemned the violence, urging all political parties to ensure a peaceful and orderly nomination process. The incident adds to growing concerns about law‑and‑order challenges ahead of the scheduled polls.
The MP, whose name was not disclosed in the initial report, confirmed that he will continue his campaign despite the attack, and his party has called for swift action against the perpetrators.
Authorities have appealed to the public for any information that could help identify those responsible for the stone‑throwing assault.
