A stampede during a religious event in India has left at least 19 people dead, authorities report.
A sudden crush of people at a religious gathering in India resulted in a stampede that killed at least 19 individuals, officials said. The incident occurred during a popular festival when crowds surged into a narrow passage. Emergency services were dispatched quickly, but the dense crowd made rescue operations difficult. Authorities are investigating the cause of the crush and have urged organizers to improve crowd control measures. The tragedy has prompted calls for stricter safety protocols at large religious events.
