In Srinagar, residents gathered late at night to protest and mark the seventh anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370.
On the night of March 5, thousands of people assembled in Srinagar’s central market area to commemorate the seventh anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370. The gathering began after midnight and continued until the early hours of the morning.
Participants, mainly local residents and activists, carried placards and banners demanding the restoration of the special status that had been granted to Jammu & Kashmir. The slogans shouted by the crowd included calls for “justice” and “reversal of the abrogation.”
Police deployed a crowd control cordon and used tear gas to disperse the demonstrators. Several people were detained for unlawful assembly, and a few were taken to the local police station for questioning.
The protest, which was largely peaceful until the police intervention, highlighted ongoing tensions in the region over the constitutional changes that took place in 2019.
