The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has revised the National Sports Federation assistance scheme, earmarking a total outlay of Rs 7,386.74 crore to strengthen sports infrastructure and talent development across India.

New Delhi, Oct 17 — The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports announced a revision of the National Sports Federation (NSF) assistance scheme, increasing the financial outlay to Rs 7,386.74 crore. The enhanced budget aims to provide greater support to state federations, improve training facilities, and fund grassroots talent identification programmes.

According to the ministry's statement, the additional funds will be allocated through a transparent grant mechanism, with priority given to disciplines that have shown Olympic potential. Existing beneficiaries will receive revised disbursements, while new federations can apply under the updated guidelines.

The move comes as part of the government's broader effort to elevate India's performance in international competitions and to create a sustainable ecosystem for sports development. Officials indicated that the scheme will be monitored by an inter‑ministerial committee to ensure effective utilization of resources.

Stakeholders, including former athletes and federation officials, welcomed the increased funding but urged swift implementation to address long‑standing infrastructure gaps in many regions.

The ministry plans to release detailed implementation schedules in the coming weeks, with the first tranche of funds expected to be disbursed by the end of the fiscal year.
