Union minister Mansukh Mandaviya praised the Chhattisgarh Hockey League, saying its format and outreach can serve as a template for similar initiatives across India.

Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said the Chhattisgarh Hockey League exemplifies how a state‑level competition can boost grassroots participation and raise the sport’s profile. His comments came in a statement released after reviewing the league’s inaugural season.

The league, organised by the Chhattisgarh government in partnership with the state hockey association, features teams from across the state and aims to provide a competitive platform for emerging talent. Organisers have highlighted its role in identifying players for national camps and fostering local enthusiasm for hockey.

Mandaviya noted that the league’s structure, community engagement and transparent administration make it a replicable model for other states seeking to nurture sports ecosystems. He urged state governments to study the Chhattisgarh experience and adapt its best practices.

The minister’s endorsement aligns with the central government’s broader push to strengthen India’s sporting infrastructure ahead of upcoming international events, emphasizing the need for more regional leagues in sports beyond cricket.
