Sonu Nigam apologises for likening Kannada song demand to Pahalgam attack

Veteran playback singer Sonu Nigam publicly apologized on Tuesday after his comment linking the public demand for a Kannada song to the 2008 Pahalgam terrorist attack sparked a backlash. The apology was posted on his verified social media handle, where he expressed regret for the insensitive analogy. In his statement, Nigam said he had not intended to trivialise the tragedy that claimed dozens of lives in Jammu and Kashmir. The original remark was made during a promotional interview for his upcoming Kannada track, where he described the song's popularity as "a demand as fierce as the Pahalgam attack". The comparison was quickly condemned by netizens, political figures and victims' families, prompting the swift apology. Nigam reaffirmed his respect for the victims and pledged to be more mindful in future public remarks.
