A solar-powered toilet, constructed under the VB-G RAM G scheme, has been inaugurated at a school in Chhattisgarh, removing the daily sanitation challenges faced by female students.
The VB-G RAM G initiative has funded the construction of a solar-powered toilet at a government school in Chhattisgarh. The facility, equipped with photovoltaic panels, generates electricity to run lighting and a water‑pumping system, ensuring a functional and hygienic restroom even in areas with unreliable power supply.
Female students, who previously had to travel long distances or wait for limited facilities, now have a clean, safe space within the school premises. The new toilet is expected to reduce absenteeism among girls and improve overall attendance, as sanitation has been a known barrier to consistent education for young women in rural India.
Education officials highlighted that the project aligns with national goals of improving school infrastructure and promoting renewable energy. If successful, similar solar‑driven sanitation units could be replicated across other underserved schools in the state, contributing to both gender equity in education and sustainable development.
