The Army Sports Institute’s talent scouting camp in Tawang selected six promising young athletes for further training.

The Army Sports Institute (ASI) recently concluded a talent scouting camp in the hill town of Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh. The camp, aimed at identifying raw sporting talent from remote regions, concluded with the selection of six young athletes who demonstrated strong potential across various disciplines.

Officials from ASI said the chosen candidates displayed a blend of physical aptitude, discipline and a keen competitive spirit during the intensive assessment drills. The selection process involved skill tests, fitness evaluations and short match simulations, all overseen by senior coaches and former national players.

The six athletes will now be enrolled in ASI’s structured training programme, which provides access to professional coaching, modern facilities and exposure to national-level competitions. Their inclusion is expected to broaden the talent pool for Indian sports and give representation to athletes from the far‑north eastern frontier.

The move underscores the defence ministry’s ongoing effort to promote sports as a means of holistic development and to scout talent beyond traditional urban centres.
