Forest officials detained six suspects accused of killing a six‑year‑old male tiger by laying electric wire in the Hirri Beat forest of Balaghat, and seized the animal’s skin, claws and the wire.
The forest department in Balaghat district, Madhya Pradesh, has arrested six individuals suspected of killing a six‑year‑old male tiger in the Hirri Beat forest. Investigators say the poachers strung an electric wire across a trail to immobilise the animal before shooting it.
Police recovered the tiger's skin, its claws and the length of wire used in the operation. All seized items have been handed over to the wildlife crime laboratory for forensic examination.
In addition to the arrests, three forest officials were served notices for alleged procedural lapses during the investigation. The department has warned that any further interference with protected wildlife will attract strict legal action under the Wildlife Protection Act.
