A 22‑year‑old man was murdered with a knife during the immersion of a Durga Puja idol in Sitamarhi’s Madhuban market, sparking a road‑block protest by locals demanding the arrest of the suspects.
During the immersion ceremony of a Durga Puja idol in Madhuban market, Sitamarhi, a 22‑year‑old man named Sudhir Kumar was fatally stabbed. The attack took place amid the festive crowds gathered for the ritual. Local authorities have not yet identified the assailants, but witnesses say the incident was sudden and violent.
In the aftermath, villagers expressed anger over the lack of security and the perceived delay in law‑enforcement response. They blocked a main road near the market, demanding that the police arrest those responsible for the murder. The protest has halted traffic for several hours.
Police have opened an investigation and are canvassing the area for CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts. The incident has drawn attention to the need for better crowd control during large religious events in the region.
The local government has pledged to review security measures for future Durga Puja celebrations to prevent a recurrence of such violence.
