The Sikkim‑based production ‘Shape Of Momo’ secured two international honors at the International Film Festival of South Asia in Toronto this year.
Sikkim’s cultural showcase ‘Shape Of Momo’ was awarded Best Short Film and the Audience Choice Award at the International Film Festival of South Asia (IFFSA) held in Toronto in 2026. The film, which explores the heritage and culinary traditions surrounding the iconic momos of the Himalayan region, impressed both the jury and viewers with its vivid storytelling and authentic visuals.
Festival organizers highlighted the work’s ability to blend regional folklore with contemporary cinematic techniques, noting its contribution to promoting North‑East Indian culture on a global platform. The dual recognition places the Sikkimese production among a select group of South Asian entries that have achieved international acclaim this year.
The accolades are expected to boost the film’s distribution prospects and may open doors for further screenings at other festivals worldwide. Local authorities in Sikkim have praised the achievement, calling it a testament to the state’s growing creative talent and its potential to attract cultural tourism.
Industry observers anticipate that the success of ‘Shape Of Momo’ will encourage more filmmakers from the region to pursue stories rooted in local traditions, thereby enriching India’s diverse cinematic landscape.
