The university’s administration has reviewed its preparedness to shift academic operations to the new Yangang campus in South Sikkim.
The governing council of Sikkim University convened a special committee to examine the logistical and infrastructural readiness for moving its academic activities to the newly developed Yangang campus. The review covered classroom facilities, laboratories, library resources, hostels, and transport arrangements required for students and staff.
The committee reported that most teaching spaces and laboratory equipment are in place, while residential hostels and some ancillary services still need final touches before the scheduled shift. It also highlighted the need for enhanced internet connectivity and campus security measures.
University officials said the move is part of a broader plan to expand higher‑education capacity in the state and to provide a modern learning environment for students from across the region. They assured that any pending work will be completed ahead of the upcoming academic session to minimise disruption.
The shift to Yangang, located in South Sikkim, is expected to boost local employment and foster closer ties between the university and surrounding communities, officials added.
