MP Indra Hang Subba has urged Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to prioritize a climate‑resilient highway in North Sikkim to safeguard the region’s fragile infrastructure.
Sikkim’s northern districts are increasingly vulnerable to landslides and flash floods as climate patterns shift, threatening the state’s connectivity and economic prospects.
In a recent statement, Member of Parliament Indra Hang Subba appealed to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to focus on developing a climate‑resilient highway that would link remote villages in North Sikkim to the rest of the state.
The proposed road would not only improve access for residents and tourists but also serve as a critical evacuation route during natural disasters, reducing the risk of loss of life and property.
Subba said that the federal government’s support is essential for securing the necessary funding and technical expertise to design a road that can withstand extreme weather events.
