Effective 1 January, the Sikkim administration has raised the dearness allowance and dearness relief rates for its civil servants and pension beneficiaries.

The Sikkim state government issued an order to revise the dearness allowance (DA) and dearness relief (DR) rates for all its employees and pensioners, with the changes taking effect from 1 January. The adjustment is part of the administration’s effort to cushion the impact of rising living costs on government staff and retirees.

According to the finance department’s circular, the revised rates apply uniformly to civil servants across departments as well as to pensioners receiving state‑run retirement benefits. The move aligns Sikkim’s compensation framework with the latest inflation indices used by the central government.

The announcement was made without specifying the exact percentage increase, but officials indicated that the revision follows the standard formulae prescribed for DA and DR adjustments nationwide. The government has urged department heads to implement the new rates in the upcoming payroll cycle.

Stakeholders, including employee unions and pensioner associations, have welcomed the decision, noting that it provides timely relief amid escalating consumer prices. The state government affirmed that it will continue to monitor inflation trends and adjust allowances as required.
