Sikkim's Chief Minister introduced the Aama Sashaktikaran Yojana, aiming to provide mothers with greater financial autonomy through targeted support and empowerment measures.

The Government of Sikkim has unveiled the Aama Sashaktikaran Yojana, a new initiative designed to enhance the financial independence of mothers across the state. The scheme was announced by Chief Minister P. S. Bhutia during a press conference on 27 September 2024.

Under the programme, eligible mothers will receive a monthly stipend and access to skill‑development workshops that focus on entrepreneurship, digital literacy and financial management. The plan also includes a credit‑facilitation component, enabling mothers to secure low‑interest loans for small businesses.

Chief Minister Bhutia highlighted that the scheme will empower women to take control of household finances and contribute to the state’s economic growth. He added that the government will monitor progress through a dedicated online portal.

Experts expect the initiative to improve household income levels and encourage greater participation of women in the workforce, thereby strengthening Sikkim’s socio‑economic fabric.
