Sikkim's Chief Minister launched EKAYA, a digital platform aimed at showcasing the state's attractions through immersive, experience‑focused tourism.
Gangtok, Sept 28 — The Chief Minister of Sikkim officially unveiled EKAYA today, a new digital initiative designed to highlight the state’s cultural, natural and adventure assets through experience‑based tourism. The launch ceremony, held at the state secretariat, featured senior officials and representatives from the tourism department who outlined the platform’s interactive features, including virtual itineraries, local artisan showcases and real‑time booking options.
EKAYA aims to shift Sikkim’s tourism narrative from conventional sightseeing to participatory experiences such as homestays, guided treks, culinary workshops and community‑led festivals. By integrating local entrepreneurs and tribal knowledge, the platform seeks to generate sustainable income for remote villages while preserving the region’s ecological balance.
State officials said the initiative will be promoted through national tourism fairs and digital marketing campaigns, targeting both domestic and international travelers. They anticipate a gradual rise in visitor spend and longer stays, aligning with the government’s broader goal of diversifying Sikkim’s economy beyond traditional pilgrimage and trekking routes.
The CM emphasized that EKAYA will be regularly updated with feedback from tourists and stakeholders, ensuring that the offerings remain authentic and responsive to market trends. The platform is expected to go live to the public within the next two weeks.
