Siang River Erosion Endangers Farmland in Borguli, Mebo, Arunachal Pradesh

The Siang River, which flows through the eastern Himalayas, has begun eroding the banks near Borguli village in Mebo block of Arunachal Pradesh, encroaching on cultivated fields that support local livelihoods.

Residents of Borguli have gathered to highlight the loss of arable land and to press the state administration for a lasting solution, warning that seasonal floods could exacerbate the damage.

Local officials have been approached to consider engineering interventions such as revetments or afforestation, measures that have been employed elsewhere along the Siang to curb bank collapse, but a definitive plan has yet to be announced.
