A poultry vendor in Samastipur’s Vibhutipur area was killed on Sunday night after a man claiming to buy chicken allegedly slit his throat and escaped.
On Sunday night, near Tekuna Chowk in the Vibhutipur locality of Samastipur, a 45‑year‑old poultry seller named Ashok Das was found dead with his throat cut. Police say the incident occurred shortly after dusk when the shop was open for evening customers.
According to eyewitnesses, a young man entered the shop saying he wanted to purchase chicken. Within minutes, the man allegedly attacked the shopkeeper, slashing his throat with a sharp instrument before fleeing the scene.
Local police arrived promptly, secured the area and began a preliminary investigation. The victim’s body was taken to the district hospital for post‑mortem, and a case of murder has been registered. Investigators are canvassing nearby shops and reviewing CCTV footage to identify the assailant, who remains at large.
