The Shiv Sena (UBT) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena have reduced the length of their planned October 4 demonstration in Mumbai after the city police asked them to shorten the route.
Mumbai police approached the Shiv Sena (UBT) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) on Tuesday, urging the parties to curtail the route of their scheduled October 4 protest. The law‑enforcement officials cited concerns over traffic disruption and public safety in densely populated areas of the city. In response, both parties agreed to a revised, shorter itinerary.
The original plan envisioned a march that would traverse several major arterial roads, including parts of the Eastern Express Highway and the iconic Marine Drive promenade. After the police’s intervention, the revised route now limits the procession to a narrower stretch within the central business district, avoiding the most congested zones.
Party representatives confirmed the change, stating that the decision was taken to maintain law and order while still allowing supporters to voice their grievances. Police officials welcomed the cooperation, saying it would help them manage crowds more effectively on the day of the rally.
