Several patients report illness after chloroquine doses in Andhra Pradesh

Health officials in Andhra Pradesh have reported that a number of people fell ill after receiving chloroquine, prompting an investigation into the cause.
The health department of Andhra Pradesh announced that a group of individuals experienced adverse symptoms after being administered chloroquine as part of a state‑run health programme. Affected persons reported nausea, vomiting, dizziness and other discomforts within hours of taking the medication.
In response, the department has temporarily suspended further distribution of the drug and has urged those who received it to seek medical evaluation. Officials said they are reviewing dosage protocols and supply chain records to determine whether dosage errors or contamination could be responsible.
No deaths have been reported so far, but the state is coordinating with the national drug regulator to conduct a thorough investigation. The health ministry has assured the public that safety measures will be reinforced before any future use of chloroquine in public health initiatives.
