Seven arrested in Giridih‑Chakai truck heist, 22 tonnes of rice seized

Police uncovered a midnight truck robbery on the Giridih‑Chakai road, arresting seven suspects including the driver and recovering about 22 tonnes of stolen rice.
The Bihar police disclosed that a truck carrying rice was looted on the Giridih‑Chakai main road during the night of August 14‑15. Using footage from more than 300 CCTV cameras and a technical probe, investigators traced the culprits and secured the crime scene.
A total of seven individuals, the driver among them, were taken into custody after the Special Investigation Team linked them to the theft. The operation also led to the recovery of approximately 22 tonnes of rice that had been hidden in several warehouses across the district.
Authorities said the seized rice bags matched the cargo manifest of the stolen truck, confirming the successful retrieval of the stolen goods. The police continue to examine the CCTV data to identify any additional accomplices and to strengthen surveillance on the highway.
The incident highlights the growing reliance on digital surveillance in curbing organized thefts in rural Bihar, officials added.
