Sehore district in Madhya Pradesh is grappling with persistent rainfall that has raised the water level of Jamonia Lake to 28 feet, putting it on the brink of overflow. The lake’s rise has prompted local authorities to issue warnings to nearby residents and farmers.
Meteorological data shows that the district recorded an average rainfall of 25.6 millimetres during the recent downpour, while the cumulative seasonal rainfall in Sehore tehsil has reached 1,017.3 millimetres.
Despite the flooding risk, the abundant moisture has proved advantageous for agriculture. Soybean and paddy fields across the district have benefited from the rains, receiving much-needed irrigation.
Officials have urged vigilance and prepared evacuation plans for low‑lying areas, while also monitoring the lake’s water level closely to prevent potential damage to surrounding communities.
