The Telangana government has approved moving the Secunderabad Martyrs Memorial to clear the path for an upcoming elevated road project.
The state administration announced that the historic Secunderabad Martyrs Memorial will be shifted to make way for a planned elevated corridor linking key parts of the city. Officials said the relocation is essential to ensure uninterrupted construction of the flyover, which aims to ease traffic congestion on existing arterial roads.
The memorial, erected to honor freedom fighters who lost their lives during the struggle for independence, currently stands on a prominent junction in Secunderabad. Authorities have pledged to preserve its integrity and reinstall it at a nearby site that will remain accessible to the public.
The elevated corridor is expected to improve connectivity between the city centre and surrounding suburbs, reducing travel time for commuters. While the project has drawn support from transport users, heritage groups have called for careful handling of the monument during the move.
