Construction of a Sub‑Divisional Magistrate office worth ₹1.35 crore on private land in Tendukheda, Damoh, was stopped by authorities, who have ordered an inquiry and possible recovery of the funds from responsible officials.
The district administration in Damoh has ordered an immediate halt to the erection of a Sub‑Divisional Magistrate (SDM) office in Tendukheda after it was discovered that the building, estimated to cost ₹1.35 crore, was being constructed on privately owned land.
Sources say the construction began without the requisite clearances, prompting senior officials to intervene and stop further work. The administration has now directed a probe into the officials who authorized the project, emphasizing that any proven negligence will result in the recovery of the public money from those responsible.
The move underscores growing scrutiny over the use of private property for government projects in Madhya Pradesh, with officials warning that similar violations will attract strict financial and legal consequences.
Local residents expressed surprise at the development, noting that the site had been earmarked for a public office despite the lack of legal ownership. The inquiry is expected to conclude within a few weeks, after which the administration will decide on the exact amount to be reclaimed.
If the investigation confirms malpractice, the implicated officers could face disciplinary action in addition to being held liable for the ₹1.35 crore spent on the unauthorized construction.
