Researchers have identified a previously unknown orchid species in the forests of Arunachal Pradesh, adding a new entry to the state's rich biodiversity.
Scientists from the Indian Institute of Science and local forest officials reported the discovery during a survey in the Mishmi Hills.
The orchid, named ‘Cymbidium arunachalensis’ by the team, displays a unique combination of floral morphology not seen in other species.
Experts say the find underscores the ecological importance of Arunachal Pradesh as a hotspot for plant diversity.
