The National Scheduled Castes Commission has served notice to Sangrur’s Deputy Commissioner and Senior Superintendent of Police, demanding a thorough investigation, FIR details, arrests and charge‑sheet within 15 days.

The National Scheduled Castes Commission (NSCC) has issued a formal notice to the Deputy Commissioner of Sangrur and the city's Senior Superintendent of Police. The notice sets a 15‑day deadline for the officials to submit a comprehensive report on the death of a Dalit youth that sparked public concern.

In the notice, the commission has specifically asked for details of the ongoing investigation, copies of the FIR, the legal sections under which the case is being pursued, the status of any arrests made, and a draft charge‑sheet. The NSCC emphasized that the inquiry must be impartial and that any procedural lapses be rectified promptly.

The death of the young Dalit man in Sangrur has drawn criticism from community leaders, who allege that the police response was inadequate. By intervening, the commission aims to ensure that the case is handled according to statutory guidelines and that justice is delivered without delay.

Should the officials fail to comply within the stipulated period, the commission warned that it would consider further action, which could include forwarding the matter to higher judicial or governmental authorities.
