Samrang Land Customs Station Inaugurated in Assam, Strengthening Trade with Bhutan

The Samrang Land Customs Station, situated near the Assam‑Bhutan border, was inaugurated today as part of a bilateral effort to enhance trade links between the two neighbours. The facility is equipped to handle cargo inspections, customs clearance and logistics coordination for goods moving across the frontier.
Officials highlighted that the new station will reduce transit time for traders, cut procedural bottlenecks and provide a regulated channel for the exchange of agricultural produce, handicrafts and other commodities. It is expected to boost the volume of bilateral trade, which has been growing steadily under existing India‑Bhutan trade agreements.
The opening ceremony was attended by senior representatives from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the Assam state government and the Bhutanese trade delegation, who underscored the strategic importance of seamless border infrastructure for regional economic integration.
Trade analysts anticipate that the Samrang station will attract small and medium enterprises from both sides, fostering greater market access and creating employment opportunities in the border districts.
The facility is operational from day one, with customs officers and logistics staff already processing shipments, signalling a swift move towards more efficient cross‑border commerce.
