Saitual District Becomes Mizoram’s First ‘Surakshit’ HIV‑Free Area

Mizoram’s health authorities confirmed on Thursday that Saitual district has been awarded the ‘Surakshit’ HIV status, the first such recognition for any district in the state. The designation follows a review by the state’s HIV monitoring unit, which concluded that the district meets the criteria for being classified as HIV‑free. Officials highlighted that the achievement reflects the cumulative impact of ongoing public‑health measures in the area. The department said the success will serve as a benchmark for other districts as Mizoram intensifies its fight against HIV. Plans are under way to share best practices from Saitual with neighboring districts to replicate the outcome across the state.
