Police in Assam and Mizoram confiscated drugs valued at Rs 46.25 crore and detained five suspects, officials said.
Police teams from Assam and Mizoram jointly uncovered a large narcotics cache during a coordinated operation, seizing substances estimated at Rs 46.25 crore. The haul, described by officials as one of the biggest in recent years, included a mixture of heroin, cocaine and synthetic drugs, though exact quantities were not disclosed.
Law enforcement officials said the drugs were intercepted while being transported across state borders, suggesting an organised trafficking network. Five individuals suspected of involvement in the shipment were apprehended at the scene and are now in custody for further investigation.
The seizure underscores heightened vigilance by state police against drug trafficking in the Northeast, a region that has seen a rise in illicit drug movement in recent months. Authorities have pledged to continue aggressive raids and cooperation with central agencies to dismantle the supply chain.
No injuries or casualties were reported during the operation, and the seized narcotics have been handed over to the forensic laboratory for detailed analysis before being destroyed under official supervision.
