Road Cut Near Halwara Cantonment Closed Ahead of Amit Shah’s Visit in Ludhiana

The Punjab police shut down a temporary road cut that runs alongside the Halwara cantonment on the outskirts of Ludhiana on Tuesday, just hours before Union Home Minister Amit Shah was due to arrive for a public rally. The closure was implemented from early morning and is expected to remain in force for the duration of the minister’s visit.

Security officials said the measure was taken to ensure an unobstructed security corridor for the minister’s motorcade and to prevent any potential disruptions. The area around the cantonment is a sensitive military zone, and the authorities often tighten access ahead of high‑profile visits.

Local commuters were redirected to the main highway and nearby service roads, with police personnel guiding traffic and posting signage. The police department issued a notice on social media urging residents to avoid the area and use alternative routes.

The road cut is slated to be reopened once the minister’s itinerary is completed, although officials did not specify an exact time for the reopening.
