Irregularities in drug procurement and quality checks at Rajasthan Medical Service Corporation Ltd have deepened a medication shortage, forcing government hospitals to dispense substandard drugs to patients.

Jaipur, Oct 13 2026 – A probe by state authorities has uncovered serious lapses in the drug procurement and quality‑verification processes of Rajasthan Medical Service Corporation Ltd (RMSCL). The findings point to procedural irregularities that have aggravated an existing shortage of essential medicines in government hospitals across the state.

The investigation revealed that several purchase orders were issued without proper tendering, and that batches of medicines supplied to hospitals bypassed the mandatory quality‑control checks mandated by the health department. As a result, many public hospitals reported receiving medicines that did not meet the required standards, compelling them to use substandard drugs to treat patients.

Patients in multiple districts have reported receiving medicines that were ineffective or caused adverse reactions, prompting complaints to hospital administrators and the state health ministry. Hospital officials said they are now conducting emergency audits of their drug inventories and seeking alternative suppliers to restore the supply of approved medicines.

The state government has announced that it will initiate disciplinary action against responsible officials at RMSCL and has ordered a comprehensive review of all procurement contracts to prevent a recurrence of such lapses.
