Rising Ganga waters flood Simriya, Begusarai forcing residents to alter funeral routes

Increasing water levels of the Ganga have inundated homes in Simriya, Begusarai, and compelled funeral processions to take alternate routes.
The Ganga river’s water level has risen sharply in the Simriya region of Begusarai district, Bihar, leading to widespread flooding. Residents of Bintatoli and Malhipur Bint Toli reported that floodwaters have entered their houses, displacing families and damaging property.
Eight wards of the Malhipur South Panchayat are reported to be under water, with local authorities monitoring the situation and coordinating relief efforts. The rising waters have also disrupted routine activities, including religious and cultural ceremonies.
One notable impact has been on funeral processions. Traditional routes for the last rites had to be altered as floodwaters made the usual paths impassable, forcing families to seek alternative passages to reach cremation grounds.
District officials have urged residents to stay vigilant, avoid low‑lying areas, and cooperate with rescue teams. Relief camps have been set up in nearby safe zones to provide shelter and basic necessities to those affected.
