More than 56 villages across three blocks in Samastipur district are underwater as the Ganga and Baya rivers swell, affecting nearly 200,000 residents and halting classes in 57 schools.
The Ganga and Baya rivers have risen sharply in Samastipur district, Bihar, inundating low‑lying areas across three administrative blocks. The surge has pushed water into more than 56 villages, turning fields and streets into temporary lakes.
Authorities estimate that close to two lakh people are now facing displacement, loss of property and disruption of daily life. Many households are stranded as roads become impassable.
Education has been severely affected, with water entering 57 schools. Classes have been suspended until the premises can be cleared and made safe for students and staff.
To restore mobility, the district disaster management team has deployed a fleet of 82 boats, ferrying residents between affected villages and safer zones. Relief agencies are monitoring the situation and coordinating aid distribution where needed.
