A ring dam in Taraiya, Saran district gave way as the Gandak River rose, flooding the lower parts of six villages up to three‑four feet.
The ring dam situated at Taraiya in Bihar's Saran district collapsed early on Wednesday as the Gandak River surged beyond its banks. The sudden breach released a large volume of water into the surrounding low‑lying areas.
Villages including Rajdhani, Akuchak, Chanchalia and Bhalua were among the six settlements that saw water levels rise to three to four feet in their lower zones. Residents reported panic as floodwater entered homes, disrupting daily life and threatening property.
Local authorities were alerted immediately after the dam failure. Emergency teams have been dispatched to assist with evacuation, provide temporary shelters, and assess damage. The situation remains under close monitoring as officials evaluate the need for further relief measures.
