Cybercriminals impersonating telecom officials digitally confined a retired railway officer for 24 hours, coercing him into transferring ₹45 lakh under the threat of legal action. A suspect has been apprehended in Gujarat.
In a sophisticated cyber fraud case, a retired railway officer in Indore was allegedly swindled out of ₹45 lakh. The perpetrators, posing as telecom regulatory officials, subjected the victim to a 24-hour ordeal of digital confinement.
During this period, the victim was reportedly kept on video call and was made to believe he was under a 'digital house arrest'. The fraudsters instilled fear of legal repercussions, compelling the retired officer to transfer a substantial sum of money.
Following the complaint, police initiated an investigation. The operation led to the arrest of a suspect in Gujarat, indicating the interstate nature of the cybercrime syndicate. Further investigations are underway to uncover the full extent of the operation and apprehend other involved individuals.
