Assam police have detained two individuals, including a retired army jawan, on suspicion of collaborating with Pakistan's intelligence agencies.
The police in Assam announced the arrest of two suspects on charges of maintaining links with Pakistan's intelligence services. One of the detainees is a retired army jawan, whose background in the armed forces was highlighted during the investigation.
Authorities said the arrests were the result of a coordinated operation aimed at disrupting foreign intelligence activities on Indian soil. The suspects are alleged to have provided strategic information to Pakistani handlers, though details of the alleged exchanges have not been disclosed.
The investigation is being handled by the state's crime branch in collaboration with central security agencies. Both individuals have been produced before a magistrate, and further legal proceedings are expected to follow as the probe continues.
No additional arrests have been reported, and officials have refrained from commenting on the broader network or potential motives behind the alleged espionage.
The case underscores heightened vigilance by Indian security agencies against foreign intelligence infiltration, particularly in the northeastern region bordering Bangladesh and close to the international border with Myanmar.
