Religious procession to mark Valmiki Prakat Diwas scheduled in Nayagaon, Mohali on Jan 26

Local religious groups in Nayagaon, a suburb of Mohali, have announced a special program to observe Maharsi Valmiki Prakat Diwas on 26 January. The event will begin with prayers at the community temple, followed by a shobha yatra that will wind through the main streets of the locality. Organisers said the procession aims to honour the sage Valmiki, traditionally regarded as the author of the Ramayana, and to promote cultural awareness among residents. Officials from the municipal council have extended logistical support, ensuring traffic management and security for participants. The gathering is expected to draw devotees from nearby neighborhoods, fostering a shared sense of heritage.

The celebration forms part of a broader series of activities across Punjab that mark the birth‑anniversary of the ancient poet‑sage. While the exact number of attendees has not been disclosed, community leaders anticipate a lively turnout, especially among families and school groups. The shobha yatra will feature traditional music, devotional chants, and banners depicting scenes from the Ramayana.

Authorities have urged citizens to cooperate with traffic diversions and to maintain public order during the procession. The event underscores the continued relevance of Valmiki's legacy in contemporary Indian society, linking religious devotion with cultural education.
