The Red Cross Society distributed 135 track suits to girls staying at the Kanya Asra shelter in Mohali, aiming to support their education and sports activities.

The Red Cross Society recently handed over a batch of 135 track suits to the residents of Kanya Asra, a shelter for girls in Mohali. The distribution took place at the shelter’s premises and was attended by staff members of both the society and the shelter.

The suits are intended to enable the girls to take part in physical education classes and sports events without financial constraints. By providing appropriate attire, the initiative seeks to encourage regular participation in extracurricular activities that contribute to the girls' overall development.

A spokesperson for the Red Cross Society explained that the donation forms part of the organization’s broader effort to promote health, education and confidence among under‑privileged children across the region. The society plans to continue similar outreach programmes in other institutions.

Kanya Asra, which offers shelter and educational support to girls from vulnerable backgrounds, welcomed the contribution, noting that adequate sportswear has often been a missing resource for its students. The new track suits will be allocated to the girls based on need and will be used for school and community sports programs.

The event underscores the collaborative role of NGOs in supplementing government welfare schemes, particularly in the field of child development and gender‑sensitive education in Punjab.
