The Reserve Bank of India has cancelled the registration of 13 non‑bank financial companies, including 11 that were based in West Bengal, citing regulatory non‑compliance.

In a recent regulatory action, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced the cancellation of registration for 13 non‑bank financial companies (NBFCs). The decision was taken after the central bank identified persistent non‑compliance with its supervisory norms.

Among the affected entities, 11 NBFCs were operating out of West Bengal, while the remaining two were based in other parts of the country. The RBI’s notice cited violations related to capital adequacy, reporting standards, and failure to meet prescribed governance criteria.

The cancellation means that the listed NBFCs must cease all regulated activities immediately and return any deposits or investments held under RBI oversight. The central bank has urged affected customers to approach the institutions for refunds and has warned that any attempt to continue operations without a valid licence will attract penal action.

Industry observers note that the move underscores the RBI’s heightened focus on tightening oversight of NBFCs, especially in regions where rapid growth has sometimes outpaced compliance. The regulator has reiterated its commitment to safeguarding financial stability and protecting depositor interests across the country.
