RBI Declares Bank Holiday on 26 Aug 2026; Branches Shut in 15 States

The Reserve Bank of India has listed 26 August 2026 as a bank holiday, resulting in the closure of bank branches across Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) released its official holiday calendar for 2026, marking 26 August as a bank holiday nationwide. The decision applies to all scheduled commercial banks and their branches under RBI jurisdiction.
According to the RBI list, branches in fifteen states – Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand – will remain closed for the day. Customers in these regions are advised to plan transactions accordingly.
Banking officials have urged the public to use digital channels such as internet banking, mobile apps, and UPI for routine payments and fund transfers. While ATMs will continue to dispense cash, service counters will not be operational, and cheque clearing will be delayed until the next working day.
