Rajkumar Hirani Reveals How Sanjay Dutt’s Honesty Made ‘Sanju’ a Reality

In a recent interview with Bollywood Hungama, director Rajkumar Hirani opened up about the making of the biopic Sanju, highlighting the pivotal role played by the film’s subject, actor Sanjay Dutt. Hirani said that Dutt’s willingness to share personal stories and documents was essential in shaping an authentic narrative. The director added that Dutt’s candidness about the less glamorous parts of his life allowed the film to portray a more nuanced character. "Without that level of access, Sanju would not have been the same," Hirani remarked. The film, which premiered in 2018, went on to become one of the highest‑grossing Bollywood releases, earning praise for its balanced portrayal of Dutt’s journey. Hirani’s comments underscore the importance of trust between filmmakers and their subjects in biographical storytelling.
