Officials from Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh have agreed to start releasing water into the Chambal right main canal on October 18, supplying 2,000 cusecs initially for the 2026‑27 Rabi season.
In a joint meeting of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh officials, a consensus was reached to begin water releases into the right main canal of the Chambal River on October 18. The flow will start at 2,000 cubic feet per second (cusecs) to support irrigation for the upcoming Rabi 2026‑27 season. Authorities said the volume will be gradually increased based on water availability and crop water‑requirement assessments. The decision aims to alleviate farmer concerns over water scarcity and boost agricultural output in the arid zones of Rajasthan that depend on the Chambal irrigation network. The move underscores inter‑state cooperation in managing shared water resources for the benefit of the farming community.
