Uttarakhand police captured Kalya Singh, a Rajasthan-based fraudster wanted for 23 education‑related scams with a ₹35,000 bounty, after posing as Wi‑Fi technicians in Dehradun.
Kalya Singh, who has been on the run for more than 18 years, was arrested by Uttarakhand police in Dehradun on Tuesday. He is wanted in Rajasthan for 23 cases of fraud that targeted students by promising fake educational qualifications and degrees. The authorities had announced a cash reward of ₹35,000 for information leading to his capture.
According to the police, a covert operation was launched in which officers pretended to be Wi‑Fi service technicians. The ruse allowed them to approach Singh without raising suspicion and confirm his identity before taking him into custody.
The suspect will be handed over to Rajasthan law‑enforcement agencies for further investigation and trial. The operation underscores the collaborative efforts of state police forces in tackling long‑standing fraud networks that exploit vulnerable students.
