The Rajasthan education department has issued directives to involve school headmasters and village patwaris in a new oversight system aimed at preventing child marriages.
The state government of Rajasthan has rolled out a fresh monitoring framework to curb child marriages, directing the education department to enlist school headmasters and local patwaris as frontline overseers.
Under the new guidelines, headmasters will be required to maintain a register of eligible students, verify ages at the time of marriage proposals, and alert authorities if a potential child marriage is identified. Patwaris, who maintain land and population records, will cross‑check these details with official documents and report any discrepancies to the district child welfare officers.
The initiative, announced by the state education minister, aims to create a coordinated network that leverages existing school and revenue administration structures. Officials anticipate that early detection and reporting will significantly reduce the incidence of under‑age marriages across Rajasthan's rural districts.
