32‑year‑old Ankit Jain, a chartered accountant from Achnera, Rajasthan, renounced his career to take Digambar monk vows during a ceremony at Delhi’s Lal Qila Maidan.

In a solemn gathering at Delhi’s historic Lal Qila Maidan, 32‑year‑old Ankit Jain, originally from Achnera village in Pratapgarh district, Rajasthan, formally embraced the ascetic life of a Digambar monk. The ceremony, attended by senior members of the Digambar order, marked his official diksha and his departure from a conventional professional path.

Jain had previously qualified as a Chartered Accountant and was pursuing a career in finance. Citing a deepening spiritual inclination, he decided to abandon his corporate aspirations and dedicate himself to the renunciant traditions of Jainism, a move that surprised colleagues and peers.

The initiation involved traditional rites, including the symbolic shedding of worldly attachments and the adoption of monastic vows. Senior monks recited sacred verses, and Jain received the characteristic white robes and the emblematic lack of possessions that define Digambar monasticism.

Family members and local residents from his native village expressed both pride and melancholy, acknowledging his resolve while lamenting the loss of a promising professional. Community leaders noted that such a transition underscores the enduring appeal of spiritual pursuits even among educated youth.

Jain’s decision adds to a modest but growing number of young professionals in India who opt for monastic life, reflecting a broader trend of seeking meaning beyond material success.
